At the Next Media Park in Naguru, Kampala, last week, communications sector stakeholders, including government, private sector leaders, innovators, academia and ICT enthusiasts, convened to discuss the next phase of Uganda’s digital transformation journey.
Held under the theme, “Beyond Connectivity: Turning Access into Opportunity,” the State of the Digital Economy 2026 conference examined how Uganda can convert expanding digital connectivity into greater economic participation, innovation, job creation and improved public service delivery.
The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba, who officiated as Chief Guest, called for stronger collaboration across government, industry and innovators to ensure digital technologies deliver practical benefits for citizens and businesses.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to expand digital infrastructure, strengthen digital skills, support local innovation and create an enabling policy environment that accelerates inclusive national development.
Representing Hon Nyombi Thembo, the UCC Executive Director, Mr. Haruna Musinguzi, the Director of Finance, reaffirmed UCC’s commitment to enabling a secure, competitive and inclusive communications sector that supports Uganda’s digital economy.
He noted that while significant progress has been made in expanding communications infrastructure, the next measure of success will be how effectively digital technologies create opportunities, improve productivity and enhance the quality of life for all Ugandans.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, outlined the Government’s ongoing work to strengthen digital inclusion through affordable access, innovation, digital skills, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and data governance.
She emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between public institutions, industry and academia to unlock the full potential of Uganda’s digital economy.
Beyond the keynote addresses and panel discussions, the conference featured innovation exhibitions, fintech exposes, creative economy sessions and interactive masterclasses, allowing participants to engage in constructive conversations about how technology is transforming livelihoods across Uganda.
As Uganda continues to implement the Digital Transformation Roadmap, discussions at the fourth edition of the State of the Digital Economy 2026 reinforced the importance of coordinated action to build a resilient digital ecosystem that supports innovation, investment, entrepreneurship and inclusive socio-economic development.
