Tooro Kingdom and Maarifasasa Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the ‘Tooro Digital Impact Hub’ in Fort Portal, solidifying a five-year partnership dedicated to skilling, empowering, and digitally enabling thousands of young people across the Kingdom. The MoU was signed by Rt. Hon. Omujwarakondo Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, and Robert Bob Okello, CEO of Maarifasasa Limited.
Under this partnership, Tooro Kingdom has committed a 300-square-meter facility in Fort Portal, rent-free for five years, to house the hub. In addition, the Kingdom will also provide institutional support, subsidized access to utilities, and actively mobilize youth and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in the program. Maarifasasa, on its end, will equip and operationalize the hub, providing cutting-edge training in digital literacy, e-commerce, artificial intelligence (AI), digital marketing, and remote work readiness.
The goal is to skill at least 5,000 youth, with a minimum 60% female participation, and support the digital transformation of over 250 local MSMEs, particularly in the tourism sector.
“This partnership is a bold step in positioning Tooro Kingdom as a digital powerhouse and leader in youth-centered innovation,” Rt. Hon. Rwomiire Akiiki said during the signing of the MoU. “We are investing in the future of our youth by ensuring that they are not left behind in the digital revolution.”
Robert Bob Okello remarked that Maarifasasa exists to democratize access to digital opportunities. “We are honored to work with the Kingdom to create a dynamic ecosystem where young people can learn and innovate their way into the future as we advance our bold goal of unlocking 1 million earning opportunities in the digital economy by 2030,” he said.
The Tooro Digital Impact Hub is expected to officially open its doors in August 2025, with programs tailored to align with Tooro’s cultural heritage and tourism development agenda. The hub will also serve as a collaborative space for creators, startups, and enterprises across the region.
This MoU marks a significant milestone in the shared vision of both parties to create inclusive and sustainable digital economies in Africa, starting with the youth of Tooro.
