As the economy slowly makes its way to some semblance of normalcy, it cannot be denied that the year 2020 has been a trying one for the Startup ecosystem world over. The Covid-19 pandemic that very quickly swept the globe affected supply chains, customer and client bases, communication and general operations, among many more startups.

Despite the increase in market uncertainty, startups in Uganda are developing products to help consumers and businesses survive during covid-19 with help from the startup ecosystem in Uganda. Many startups, companies and individuals have risen to the occasion, shifting their working modules to meet current demand and finding innovative digital solutions to continue to ensure that their customer base is satisfied.

Through the ‘My Start Up Story Campaign’, The Kampala Innovation Week (KIW) Awards would like to highlight and reward these entities that embody this year’s theme: “Innovation, Recovery and Resilience.” As a consumer, client or customer, you decide which of these businesses receive this spotlight!

The KIW Awards have six different sectors; Agriculture, Health, Education, Communication, Energy and the Creative Industries — with only a total of 30 nominee slots.

Tell your #MyStartupStory by:

  1. Recording a 1 minute video, highlighting your startup story and the ways in which you have adapted to COVID-19.
  2. Post on your social media and tag KIW in your posts. In addition, use the hashtag #mystartupstory, then you stand a chance to be among the bi-weekly winners.

The campaign comes with additional prizes including; free social media marketing on the Startup Uganda and KIW Channels, SafeBoda credit worth UGX100,000 and Google & Amazon credit worth USD20,000 from Outbox to mention but a few.

Applicants can send through their submissions online via the link not later than 31st of October. The KIW Awards will take place during the Kampala Innovation Week 2020 happening November 26th to 28th powered by Startup Uganda in partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund and sponsored by International Trade Centre, Enabel, Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator, SafeBoda, MoTIV and Talent Africa Group.
