Seedstar World team selected Labes Key – schoolap, and Bluewave Insurance Agency Limited as regional winners of the seedstar pitch event from Kinshasa (D.R.C) and Nairobi (Kenya) respectively, to represent their countries at the Seedstar Global Summit in Switzerland next year.
The two regional winners make it a total of six startups so far selected from Africa. The four include; Rera Online Farm (Harare, Zimbabwe), Cowtribe Technology Ltd (Accra, Ghana), BeneFactors Ltd (Kigali, Rwanda), and Agro Supply Uganda Limited (Kampala, Uganda).
The seedstar team will on Friday 28th of this month be in Maputo (Mozambique).
All Africa regional finalists from 23 cities will meet at a Regional Summit that will be held in Tanzania later in December. They will network with fellow competitors, as well as showcase their business ideas and products to business men and women, investors, while they receive mentorship. They will then travel to Switzerland early next year where they will meet other regional finalists from; Asia, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and ECA.

Bluewave Insurance Agency Limited emerging winner from Nairobi, 7 more startups; Paybobby, Angaza Elimu, Gravity.earth, Optimetriks, PataGrao Limited, Lily Health, and bitshamba participated. Optimetriks, and Angaza Elimu came in the second and third places respectively.
The teams pitched in front of a jury – Samuel Gikandi; Co-founder & CEO at Africa’s Talking Ltd, Maryam Mgonja; Associate for East Africa at Seedstar World, Teresa Mbagaya; Investment Principal at Omidyar Network, and Munyutu Waigi; Co-Founder at Umati Capital (Kenya) Limited.
Bluewave Insurance Agency Limited – built a platform that allows Kenyans access simple, affordable, insurance products through the simplest mobile device. Solving a problem of 70% of Kenyans earning below USD$300 (roughly UGX1.2 million) per month and rely on families and community to fund-raise for hospitalization and funeral costs.

With Labes Key – schoolap emerging winner from D.R.C, 10 startups; EBUTELO, AfriNTIC SARL, WapiMED sarl, STATS CONGO, SMS Emploi, EHE, Faysal Company, Integrity Media RDC, Alternative Energy Technologies Group, and InjoByte participated with WapiMED sarl, and Alternative Energy Technologies Group coming in the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
