Telco; Airtel Kenya has followed Airtel Uganda and launched its 4G service in the country on Wednesday offering double data to its customers who have a 4G enabled handset and simcard subscribed to the monthly bundle. On the other hand offering customers who upgrade their sim to 4G a 2GB bonus free.
The new service that comes after its major competitors Safaricom (December 2014), Jamii Telecom (December 2017), and Orange (February, 2018) had already rolled out 4G coverage aiming to offer faster internet speeds for their customers.
It’s been reported the Airtel 4G will initially be available in Nairobi and Mombasa followed by extended investment and roll out to other towns and cities as part of the on-going plan quality of service improvement plan.
“Airtel is committed to continuously innovate and improve the quality of its products and services for a delightful customer experience. We believe we have launched our 4G service at the most opportune time especially now that many customers have access to more 4G enabled handsets and devices,” said Prasanta Das Sarma Managing Director Airtel Kenya.
TechWeez reports that Airtel stated that they had witnessed a 50% growth in data usage on their network attributing the growth to their unique data offerings such as Unliminet and Amazing Data Bundles. Sarma further noted that over two-thirds of the company’s subscribers are active mobile data usage.
