MaryHill Girls’ School Emerge Winners of the 2017 Stanbic Bank National School Championship

Stanbic Bank Uganda, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports, in February launched the 2017 Stanbic National Schools Championship; an exciting competition that aims to encourage and challenge secondary schools country wide in critical thinking and provide exposure to vast knowledge beyond their classrooms participating in a series of educational activities from class debates, quiz competitions and dynamic group projects.

The competition that run for eight month saw over 3000 students from 40 various secondary schools countrywide participating, and it was all brought down to four schools; NORTH: Sacred Heart Girls’ Secondary School, CENTRAL: Kibuli Secondary School, EASTERN: Teso College Aloet Secondary School, and WESTERN: MaryHill Girls’ School that made it to the finals.

Overall Winners
Mary Hill Secondary School from the Western region emerged as the winners of the 2017 Stanbic Bank National School Championship walking a way with a fully paid educational trip to South Africa while the school will receive a solar system which is worth 20 Million UGX.

The school represented by two brilliant girls Arinda Tracy and Mugisha Evelyne managed to impress the judges and the audience with their ‘Co-operative Union Project Proposal‘ – Bank Simulation Project which managed to score a perfect score of 83%…emerge winners of the eight month competition country wide.

Congratulating MaryHill, Stanbic Board Chairman Japheth Katto said, “The team from Western Uganda has been outstanding throughout the competition. They are truly worthy winners and representative of exactly what we were looking for when we started this competition which necessitated teamwork, commitment, and a sound knowledge of how financial institutions can make a difference in everyday lives.”

1st Runners Up
Kibuli Secondary School from the Central region. The school was represented by Mukibi Shafaqi and Ngabonziza Gravin who presented their Bank Simulation Project they named ‘Solid Trust Students Bank’ that managed them take the 2nd position. Each student was given an Apple iPad Air 2 while the school gets a fully installed water system worth 10 Million UGX.

2nd Runners Up
Sacred Heart Girls’ Secondary School from the Northern region represented by Asio Patience and Nakawesa Shalbashina presented the ‘Persack On-Campus Bank‘ Bank Simulation Project managed to score them a 54% score taking up the 3rd placement in the challenge, walking away with a Savings Account with 1 million UGX each while the school gets 7 habits of highly effective teenagers.

3rd Runners Up
Teso College Aloet Secondary School from the Eastern region scored a score of 53%. However, they impressed the judges and were told their project could get good financial investments from potential investors.

The team was presented with a Savings Account with 500,000 UGX each.
