MTN South Africa Foundation to reward top performers

MTN SA Foundation is rewarding top performing students with bursaries and laptops to assist them with furthering their studies and give them access to the technological tools that are critical in their studies.

The recipients of the 18 bursaries and 200 laptops include three top learners in the LSEN (learners with special educational needs) category. A top performing learner who is visually impaired will receive a laptop with specialised software and 10GB of data.

The 18 bursaries will be distributed to two qualifying learners per province that are selected by the provincial education department.  The bursaries cover registration, tuition, accommodation, books, pocket money and top-up allowance should the recipient opt to commute to their centre of learning from home.

“MTN is cognisant of the socio-economic conditions that hamper academically gifted learners from furthering their studies. This gesture provides a lifeline to these students proving them with hope for the future and an opportunity to break the vicious cycle of poverty and reach for their dreams,” says Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, General Manager MTN SA Foundation.

She adds that MTN SA Foundation is committed to working in partnership with Government to support initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching and learning in schools.  The Foundation has been involved in education through ICT for over ten years. The holistic programme addresses learner, educator and educational environmental needs.

Mtunzi-Hairwadzi adds: “The exceptional academic achievements of these learners is indicative of what hard work and focus can achieve. The support from the Foundation is a part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that we make a positive difference in the communities we operate in and contribute positively to developing a cadre of learners that will contribute to the growth and development of our economy.”
