LG announces the Wine Smart flip phone, to cater for the older generation

lg_flip_phone_wine_smartToday, LG has announced a brand new flip phone for select markets.

The Wine Smart matches the latest version of Android KitKat 4.4 with the retro styling of clamshells. While not appealing to majority of consumers today, there’s still quite the fan base for said form factors.

The phone comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core chip, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD) and a 3.5-inch LCD display (with a resolution of 480×320). The specifications may not sound like much, but throw in two cameras, a 1,700mAh battery and the clamshell design and it becomes quite the package.

LG is definately going for older smartphone users, implementing both physical keys and a Safe Keeper feature, which will send out an emergency notification (with location, etc.) to pre-defined contacts if the handset has been left for a set duration.

It’s a neat little security feature that will help keep older users safe. Oh, and there’s a notification LED too. The company plans to release the Wine Smart on September 26 in both black and white variants.
