Facebook today updated its Android app with the ability to edit posts and comments after you’ve already posted them. You can download the new version now directly from Google Play.
Post and comment editing means you no longer have to delete and repost the corrected content. If you notice a typo or auto-correct screws you over, all you have to is tap the down arrow on your post and hit “Edit post” to make your changes.
You might be wondering what took Facebook so long to implement this. Apparently, the company was working on a history feature: once you’ve edited your post, you can tap to see all your changes.
Comment and post editing is now available on the Web (although editing posts on Facebook Pages is still annoyingly absent), but Facebook is also finally bringing it to mobile. Facebook says the feature is coming to iOS “soon” but wouldn’t offer any more details.
Google Play unfortunately doesn’t show an updated changelog for Android yet, but Facebook told us the app has received the following improvements:
- Use icons in status updates to express what you’re feeling or doing.
- See upcoming events at a glance on your favorite Pages.
- Create and share new photo albums from your phone.
For those who don’t know, Facebook develops the Android and iOS apps for its social network while Microsoft and BlackBerry develop the Facebook app for their respective mobile platforms. We thus know that iOS will get this feature before the end of the year, but there’s no telling how long it will take for the Facebook apps for BlackBerry and Windows Phone to catch up.
