A Step-by-Step Guide of How to Download GIFs From Twitter

Download that GIF...

So you found a cool-looking funny GIF on Twitter that you would love to save on your device and probably share with friends outside the app but unfortunately, you don’t know how to download and save it. It’s cool because in this article we are going to share with you how.

Quick Tip: Since Twitter converts GIFs into a looped video format, you will need a third-party app in case you’re looking to save GIFs from the blue app.

Here’s a guide on how to download a Twitter GIF on all devices:

On your iPhone

For you to download or save a GIF from Twitter to your iPhone, you’ll need to install a third-party app like GIFwrapped.

Step 1: From the Twitter app, find the Tweet with the GIF you wish to save. Tap the “Share” icon, then “Copy Link”.

Step 2: Launch the third-party app and tap on the search tab. Paste the Tweet URL into it then press “Search” on your keyboard.

Step 3: You’ll now see the GIF from your tweet in the GIFwrapped gallery on your screen. Tap the GIF you want to download. Next, click on the “Share” icon at the bottom left of your screen.

Now tap the “Save to Library” option from the pop-up menu. Finally, select the “Save to Library” or “Save to Photos” options to save your GIF.

On your Android

You’ll again need a third-party app to download and save GIFs from Twitter to your android phone. We recommend the Tweet2GIF app

Step 1: Tap the share button on the Tweet that contains the GIF you want to save and tap the share button (the share button looks like three connected dots).

Step 2: Now select the “Share Via” option.

Step 3: In the menu, scroll down and select “Tweet2gif.”

Step 4: Finally tap the “Download GIF” option. Your GIF might take some seconds to render. Once done, it will automatically be saved to your device.

On Your Computer

To download and save Twitter GIFs on your computer is easier with a web downloader like Twitter Video Downloader.

With this downloader, all you have to do is copy the link to the tweet with the GIF and paste it into the website.

Here’s a step-by-step guide using the Twitter Video Downloader online.

Step 1: Head to the tweet which contains the GIF you want to download. Click on the “Share” icon at the bottom of the tweet and select the “Copy link to Tweet” option.

Step 2: Now open the Twitter Video Downloader website in a new tab. Paste the link you copied from Twitter in the search bar and click the “Download” button.

Step 3: Next click on the “Download video” button.

Step 4: You’ll now see your GIF on the page. Click on the three dots at the right corner of your GIF and click the “Download” option to save the GIF to your laptop or desktop.

The GIF will now download to your computer as an MP4 file. To get it back to true GIF format, you now need a conversion tool like EZGIF. Navigate to the MP4 file from your computer, select it, and click the blue Upload video! button.

On the next page, scroll down and click the Convert to GIF! button.

It is important to note that reposting the GIF to Twitter will reconvert the GIF back to Twitter’s hybrid format, as it does with any animated GIF file.
