Fired manager sues MTN Uganda

The former head of MTN’s mobile money operations in Uganda Richard Mwami, who was sacked amid allegations of fraud, is suing his ex-employer for $40,000. MTN Uganda fired Mwami in April amid accusations he stole $3.5 million from the company’s mobile money unit. The telco said it dismissed Mwami for being “negligent in executing his

functions, resulting in the loss of billions of shillings through a mobile money scam.”

But Mwami has hit back, summoning the telco to court, according to Uganda’s Daily Monitor.

Mwami says MTN’s allegations against him were never investigated as is required under the company’s human resources manual code of conduct.

“The defendant (MTN) has continuously had the plaintiff’s name published in the print media as someone who has been found guilty,” Mwami reportedly stated in court papers.

A date for the court hearing has yet to be set.
