Huawei Opens Regional State-of-the-Art Training Center in DRC

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): Huawei, a leading global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services provider today inaugurated its state-of-the art training center in Kinshasa. The event was officiated by His Excellency Joseph Kabila, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Governor of Kinshasa city Mr.  Andre’ KIMBUTA said “This wonderful project that has gathered us here today, and attended by the highest authority of our country is a reason for great satisfaction and pride for Kinshasa people and the entire population of Congo.”  He added that the initiative was in line with the vision of revolution of modernity promoted by his Excellency the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo which aims at boosting the rebuilding of the country through construction of modern infrastructure.

Huawei Senior Vice President  Mr. Guo Tian Min said the company was committed to ensure that young people pursuing ICT have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills that would make them competitive in today’s fast changing ICT sector. “Our aim is to facilitate training the next generation of ICT professionals whom we hope will in years to come, contribute positively to the development of the ICT sector in the country”.  Huawei will continue investing and growing with DRC, and the establishment of this regional training center as the first Huawei built  is the evidence of our foot deeply rooted in this country.

 

Located at Kinshasa railway station edge, the 6 storey training center covers an area of 8000 square meters, comprising of the training building and the dormitory for trainers and trainees. It includes a training equipment room, cloud computing room, Big and small training room, library, teachers’ office, telepresence conference room, video conferencing room, reception room, conference rooms, coffee breaks, smoking and prayer rooms. The center has a capacity of 80 participants per session, and 2000 participants per year. This is Huawei’s seventh training center in Africa. 

Speaking during the event also, the Abassador of China in DRC, His Excellency WANG YING WU commended Huawei for launching the first training center for African French speaking countries after two years of construction. “The training center will provide an open platform to train the local communication talent and provide the Human resource for telecomm of DRC. The Chinese government encourages Chinese enterprise to invest in DRC and participate in the reconstruction of the economy, for the peace, and sustainable development of the country.”

 

In the remarks of the Minister for Post Telephone and Telecommunication (PTT) Prof. Tryphon KIN KIEY MULUMBA, “Huawei is  China’s number one supplier of fixed and mobile network, data and value added business solutions telecommunication equipment. This supplier that is becoming number one globally has just established in our Capital city Kinshasa, its regional training center that will train not only Congolese experts but also those from Sub-Sahara French speaking Africans countries.“  He added that the opening of the training center will re-establish DRC to its original position as the center of intelligence in the middle of Africa.

To advance the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, uawei centres centres Huawei plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Kinshasa. The partnership is part of Huawei’s global ‘Telecom Seed for the Future’ knowledge transfer programme to promote local talent and enhance innovation.  Forty students monthly will acquire specialized ICT skills in the Huawei training center in areas of 3G, LTE, UMTS, Cloud computing, telepresence, video conferencing, Datacom among other current technologies.
