Japanese videogame maker Nintendo Co Ltd will stop production of the Wii U video game console this year citing stagnant sales, Nikkei reported on Tuesday. In fact a couple of components of the device have already been stopped and parts inventory will dry up this year, according to Nikkei.

Nintendo’s Wii U console has lagged behind Sony Corp’s PlayStation and Microsoft Corp’s Xbox,in stiff competition with smartphone gaming as well as PC gaming. The announcement follows a big week for the gaming community globally with Nintendo announcing the launch of their first Smartphone App, Miitomo and many other big brands dropping prices on gaming gear.
