Airtel Uganda in proud association with its new partner Huawei launched the Huawei W1 handset, their first Huawei phone partnership and the first Huawei on the market by a telecom service provider in Uganda.
The Huawei Ascend W1 is Huawei’s first smart phone to run the Windows 8 platform putting it in direct competition with other more established brands such as the Nokia Lumia series. At only 600,000 shillings from Airtel Uganda, this phone comes with a 5 mega pixel camera, a colorful design, a high quality screen and a long battery life. It is one of the best smart phones on the market for its price.
Present at the launch was staff, management and directors of Airtel Uganda led by the Managing Director, Mr. V.G. Somasekhar and the management of Huawei Technologies Uganda led by the Managing Director, Mr. Radoslaw Kedzia, as well as members of the media.

In his speech, the Airtel M.D, Mr. V.G. Somasekhar said “In Uganda, people now depend on mobile devices for not only communication but also for business and entertainment and therefore Airtel Uganda realizes that by partnering with a company that can provide affordable and reliable products like Huawei, it will be able to reach its customers at the lower level who are interested in having gadgets that can access internet and many other services and yet at an affordable price.”
Also speaking at the launch, the Huawei M.D, Mr. Radoslaw expressed his gratitude to all those who have worked with Huawei technologies to help them realize their vision since they commenced device vending business in Uganda in 2009. “Through our dedication to customer-centric innovation and a strong partnership with Airtel Uganda, we strongly believe in the quality we have just unveiled and urge Ugandans to enjoy the Airtel-Huawei W1 technology,” he said.
