Facebook and Instagram are one of the most popular social media platforms in the world. Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook Inc.) the parent company that owns the platform allows users to link both accounts to simultaneously share content like stories and posts easily and your social media experience seamless.

Regardless of the benefits of linking Facebook to Instagram, you might perhaps decide to unlink them given your reasons such as getting hacked and losing control over one of the social platforms or restricting your browsing habits and data, among other reasons.

To link both accounts, it has to be done via the Instagram app —you can’t do it using the web version [Instagram Web], however, unlinking the accounts can be done via the mobile app and Instagram website. In this article, we share with you a step-by-step process of how to unlink your Facebook account from your Instagram account.

Unlinking Using The Instagram App

You can unlink Facebook from your Instagram account using the Instagram app for iOS and Android. However, this only applies when you have a personal account/page. In case you have a business Instagram account/page, you will have to first convert it to a personal page before unlinking Facebook. To unlink;

  1. Open your Instagram app and in the lower-right corner tap on your profile picture to access your account.
  2. In the upper-right corner and tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines).
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll down and tap Accounts Center.
  5. Tap Accounts.
  6. Locate your Facebook account(s) and choose what account(s) you want to remove and then tap Continue.
  7. Tap Remove
  8. When the confirmation message appears, tap Continue. If both accounts share the same login password, you will be required to change one of the passwords.
  9. Boom! You would have successfully unlinked your Facebook and Instagram accounts.
