On Thursday last week, telecommunication firm; Airtel Uganda announced it had reduced its calling rate across all networks by one shilling .i.e from UGX4 to UGX3 per second. The rate applies to Airtel subscribers as well.

Airtel Uganda Managing Director; V.G Somasekhar said the new rates of UGX3 per second across all networks in Uganda is testimony to Airtel’s commitment to simplicity and affordability.

“We always commit to affordability and simplicity in our operations. When you make any call, from anywhere at any time you are guaranteed to spend only UGX3 per second. A minute is as low as UGX180 across all networks,” he said.

To recall, Airtel followed its rival, MTN Uganda in April — to start charging its subscribers the same calling rate. The same rate that was put into effect was UGX4 similar to MTN, but as of Thursday 4th, July 2019 the Airtel rate now changes to UGX1, less to what MTN is charging.

The rates now apply for both the prepaid and postpaid customers. Previously, the traffis were not affecting the postpaid customers.

Airtel today is the fastest growing telcom in Uganda resultantly from the extensive network roll-out that has happened in the last one year to build Uganda’s 100% 4G network.

The telco currently boasts of 1,632 sites and over 3,900 kilometers of fiber across Uganda covering 95.9% population, making it possible for subscribers around the country to enjoy an improved experience in internet based activities.
