Internet giant Google has announced the launch of a new app, Datally, to help users understand, control, and save on their mobile data.
Datally helps users understand their data usage on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis and get personalized recommendations for how you can save more. Once you turn on the Data Saver bubble, the app blocks background data usage and tracks real-time data usage while using each of your apps. With one tap, you can block data if an app’s data usage gets out of control.
According to reports, Datally is released as part of Google’s Next Billion Users initiative which is focused on making Google products more useful and relevant in countries with limited mobile data usage and where the majority of users have smartphones with lower-end hardware.
“In next billion users market, people are data constrained in many ways… people will buy data and worry about how much is left, how much is used,” Peeyush Ranjan, the vice president of engineering for Next Billion Users initiative at Google, told FactorDaily in an interview on Tuesday.
Additionally, there is a “Find Wi-Fi” button in Datally that lists all nearby hotspots being provided by restaurants and other businesses.
