You may or may not have heard of this new USB cable. It was introduced with the MacBook from Apple. There again, Apple decided to release something before we were quite ready for it… yet again, we now wonder how we ever lived without it. This new USB Type C cable is actually quite fantastic. Why? Let’s find out.
What is It?
The USB – C cables are the latest generation of USB connectors. It has a profile that is quite thin and the plug orientation is reversible. The USB – C cables, which you can see at www.newnex.com, can be used both on portable devices and larger ones. This cable will support Display Port Alternate Mode, USB Power Delivery 2.0, and USB 3.1 Generations 1 and 2. This enables people who use it to have high speeds and data transmitting that is secure, as well as system power transfer and display connection simultaneously.
Reversible
Apple’s Lightning Cable is reversible. This USB – C cable is also reversible. You don’t need to worry anymore about making sure that you have the plug turned the right way before you plug your device in. This will make it easier to plug your devices in when you are in the dark. It will also solve the problem with the cord getting all twisted about because of having to plug it in a certain direction.
Simplicity
One of the main reasons that the USB – C can be looked at as the future of gadgets is because of its simplicity. Think back to the mid – 90s when the USB was first introduced. This effectively took away things like parallel ports and serial ports from the backs of our laptops and PCs. The USB – C cable can pretty much have the same effect when it comes to mobile computing, but on a more massive level. It can replace the cables that we need for video, data, and power… making everything just a little bit simpler.
Data
We all know that faster transfer speeds are never a bad thing. With this cable, you get data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps (gigabits per second). This is twice what you get with our normal USB cables and as much as 10 times what the speed is with the Google fiber connection.
Video
Streaming is a HUGE thing now. In the past, if we wanted to be able to stream video, we had to have things like HDMI and Display Port. Now, with the USB – C cables, these things are facing becoming obsolete. Aside from being able to stream video, it can actually do it both directions. This means that you will now need only a single cable to carry your video from your PC to your phone OR from your phone to your PC. It works with tablets and TVs too.
Power
This tiny little cord has the capacity to carry an amazing amount of power. Depending on what you plug it into, this little sucker can give you as much as 100w of power. In case that means nothing at all to you, let me just say that it is enough power to charge your full sized laptop – not just those skimpy laptops that have processors that are underpowered.
Open Standard
In case you don’t know what this means, think about your typical USB connector. It isn’t something that is proprietary to a single company – like most of the Apple cords and connectors. The USB connectors are used on most of the devices that we use on a daily basis – regardless of who makes them or the actual type of device. The USB – C connectors are like that too. It will not be something that is exclusive to any type of gadgets or company.
Backwards Compatibility
Don’t worry if you don’t have anything that has a USB – C port right this minute. You can still use one on any of your devices that has a USB port. All you need is an adapter and you will be good to go.
Size Matters
This is a tiny connector. What this means for the future of our gadgets is that they will soon be thinner too… which means even more portability.
