The Up Accelerate program was launched a health-based innovation accelerator dubbed ‘Up Accelerate in November 2016 focused on empowering youth to address sexual and reproductive health bottlenecks, which runs until October 2017. This innovative program is part of a regional initiative by UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office, with funding from UKAID.

Up Accelerate seeks to explore new and engaging ways to tackle pressing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges in Uganda while promoting social entrepreneurship among young people.

Outbox Hub in partnership with UNFPA is inviting innovators to the Pitch Day of the first cycle of the Up Accelerate initiative scheduled for January 17th, 2017 from 9 a.m to 1:00 pm (EAT) at Outbox. Ten finalist teams that were selected in the Up Accelerate program will pitch their ideas to an independent panel of Judges and four teams will have an opportunity to win; business and technical training, $10,000 in Seed Funding, and mentor-ship for four months.

During the launch, Ms. Miranda Tabifor, UNFPA Representative said, “Innovation and the active engagement of young people in our work can be catalyzers of significant change, and help achieve the demographic dividend in Uganda.”

Up Accelerate is a one-year initiative that seeks to support young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 30 years that are tackling challenges in sexual and reproductive health in Uganda.

The Up Accelerate initiative has been developed with support from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, aligns with national priorities, and contributes to Vision 2040.
