About UNBS and REN Publishers Limited:
Uganda National Bureau of Standards and REN Publishers Limited have developed, and are in the process of rolling out an Electronic Verification Service, offering a non-forgeable electronic tag system that enables consumers to conclusively detect forgeries of labels and standards quality marks using their mobile handsets free of charge.

The service is called UNBS E-Tag Service.

Job Summary:
The Software Developer will be responsible for development and maintenance of web applications.

The incumbent will work as part of a team to assess user requirements and developing ways to meet these requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • In charge of reviewing current systems.
  • Presenting ideas for the system improvement.
  • Working closely with analysts, designers and staff.
  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of specifications.
  • In charge of testing the product in control, real situations before going live.
  • Preparation of training manuals for users.
  • Maintaining the system once they are up and running.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information technology, Information systems or related fields from a recognized University.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in developing web applications.
  • Experience in building and deploying web apps using JavaScript, PHP and JAVA.
  • Previous experience working with HTML and CSS.
  • The applicant should have worked with JavaScript frameworks including Angular or React JS.
  • Familiar with version control system especially GIT.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking infrastructure.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and strong negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with clients, colleagues and management to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Able to meet deadlines.
