Tesla Motors may source batteries from Samsung SDI Co Ltd for its energy systems in homes, companies and utilities, rather than for its electric cars , the US company’s chief executive said on Wednesday.
Elon Musk initially was responding to earlier reports from Reuters citing unnamed sources that said Samsung batteries would find their way into the Models S and X. Not so, according to Musk, who tweeted, “Would like to clarify that Tesla is working exclusively with Panasonic for Model 3 cells. News articles claiming otherwise are incorrect.”
But when asked by a follower if Samsung might supply batteries for Tesla Energy, Musk said “yes.”
