Music streaming service Spotify yesterday revealed that its user base had grown to 100 million, up from 75 million previously, and of these, 30 million are paying subscribers.

This means the company has the biggest music streaming service, and the industry’s biggest paid subscriber base.

With competition from Apple Music claiming 13 million paid users , 30 million users is a great number, given that the majority still tune in for free with commercial breaks.

News sources indicate that Amazon is also preparing its own standalone service.

Last year, Spotify made an operating loss of 184.5 million euros ($209 million), widening from 165.1 million in 2014.
