You’re one of the 1 billion monthly active users using WhatsApp and you might not be aware that you can send bold, italics and strikethrough messages in you Whatsapp. The social platform is a primary mode of communication for almost everyone globally. The impressive thing about the WhatsApp is that the developers keep updating it with new features every now and then, from end-to-end encryption to Voice encryption to PDF sharings in messages to Marking messages as Unread ..and so forth.
Of recent, the Facebook-owned social media platform, also added “Quotes” to its app, whatsapp users are now able to send quotes in their messages just like it is in Telegram.
WhatsApp recently included few more most needed features to its app, where one is now able to add Bold, Italics, and Strikethroughs in your messages.[related-posts]
This is quite simple to use and won’t even take you a second to learn. Let’s see on how to use them:
Sending a Bold Message:
Add an asterisk (*) before and after the text. For example, *This is bold*. Hit send, whatsApp will automatically do the work for you and make it bold.
Sending an Italics Message:
Add an underscore (_) before and after the text. For example, _This is italics_. Hit send, and then whatsapp will do the magic for you.
Sending a Strikethrough Message:
Add a tilde (~) before and after the text. For example, `This is strikethrough`just like the other steps above hit send and all the work is done. Note: for this case, be careful not to use quotes since they look alike in one way or the other.
Try it out for yourself…!
Great feature. I like that it’s unobtrusive, and if you’re familiar with markdown, it feels “natural” to use. The same syntax also works in Threema, btw. I think Android and iOS should make this a native feature of the OS.
