Madagascar commences SIM deactivation

After the SIM identification campaign ending on 20th April, Madagascar has started deactivation of SIMs not yet registered.

The Agency for Regulation of Technology and Telecommunication (ARTEC, formerly OMERT) implemented the SIM registration campaign in early March 2016.

Article 5 of Order No. 2471/2016 of the regulations gives subscribers 90 days from SIM deactivation to provide identification details in order to retain their mobile number.

If they do not do it with in the selected time-frame, the numbers are cancelled permanently.

Madagascar joins Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabawe, and South Africa, who have implemented SIM registration.
