Tanzania’s head of telecoms regulator suspended

The head of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority has been suspended by President John Magufuli, and the entire board has been disbanded.

The reason for the suspension is weak management and incompetence, which has cost the East African nation about $181.7 million annually.

Last November, the president suspended the head of the Tanzania Revenue Authority and ordered a probe into hundreds of shipping containers with goods worth 80 billion shillings that went missing at Dar es Salaam’s port.

This is part of Magufuli’s  aggressive crack down on corruption and government waste, and   has sofar fired at least seven government agency heads since coming to office.
