The rumor that has been going around for the past few months about Twitter Inc. scraping away its 140-character limit for 10,000 characters – for tweets just won’t happen. In an interview with NBC yesterday, CEO Jack Dorsey said the the company won’t be expanding the potential length of tweets users post on its service.

During his interview with NBC’s “Today” show, Jack said the 140-character limit, which dictates how long people’s posts can be, will remain in place despite rumors he was considering a change.

“It’s staying. It’s a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity,” Dorsey said on NBC’s Today Show.

CNET reports that, In January, Dorsey fanned those rumors by sending a tweet saying he aimed to respond to a new trend where users were including screenshots of text with their tweets to get around the character limit. “What if an image of text “was actually text?” he wrote at the time.

“We’re not going to be shy about building more utility and power into Twitter for people,” Dorsey wrote at the time, also in a screenshot of text that was longer than 140 characters.

Dorsey has changed some of Twitter’s core features since he returned to run Twitter permanently in October. Twitter has added “Moments,” which allows users to easily find tweets about the day’s biggest news stories, and changed the shape of its “favorite” icon from a star to a heart.[related-posts]
