Despite the ups and downs experienced by most tech startups, this week Twitter Inc. celebrates its 10th year in operation.
On March 21, ten years ago, Twitter Inc. began with Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey who sent the first tweet ever “just setting up my twttr,” as it read. Since then, every moment of every day, over 320 Million people connect and share about the things they care about most all over the world.
According to Fortune, In March, Twitter’s popularity exploded during the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin. From then on, its mark on Internet culture began, including the use of the “hashtag,” proposed in 2007 by technologist Chris Messina. Twitter eventually built a real business and became a bonafide tech company when it went public in late 2013.
As they mark this milestone, it’s you they want to celebrate. As March 21 begins around the world, each of their global offices will kick off the day by showing their appreciation and gratitude, starting in Sydney and following their headquarters in San Francisco. “We are excited to celebrate with all of you.”
Starting in ?? on 3/21 and moving across the ?, we thank you for 10 incredible years.
