Airtel Kenya, has revealed that itsĀ aiming to launch 4G LTE services by the end of the year, to enable it to better compete in the high speed mobile data market.
The revelation was made by Airtel Kenya CEO, Adil El Youssefi who said that theyĀ are working closely with the stakeholders, regulators and the government to ensure that they Ā launchĀ the 4G network as soon as possible, hopefully this year.
The coverage of Airtelās 3G network, which was launched in February 2012, has been increased to 75% of the population.
CurrentlyĀ Airtel Kenya is the countryās second largest mobile network operator, behind market leader Safaricom but ahead of third-placed Telkom Kenya (Orange).
Safaricom is currently the marketās sole provider of LTE services.
