For the first time, BlackBerry Jam Session Super Hackathon comes to Kenya

Kenya will on November 17 host its first ever BlackBerry Jam Session Super Hackathon event, ahead of the launch of smartphone-maker Research In Motion’s next-generation BlackBerry 10 platform.

The event follows the BlackBerry Mini Jam held in Nairobi earlier this year in August, where Kenyan developers engaged in developing apps for BlackBerry 10.

BlackBerry Jam Session Super Hackathon is one of the many hosted around of the world, and is an intense 10-hour programming session where developers can start planning their apps, create the business model and develop it. It is also a great opportunity to meet people, have fun and even earn some great prizes.

BlackBerry experts will be on hand to provide guidance, give advice on topics from coding to design to marketing, share ideas and support developers as they bring their apps to life.

Towards the end, developers will get a chance to present their apps to a panel of judges for a chance to win prizes in the following categories: Best App, Best Game, Best E-Commerce App, and Best User Interface Design.

Some of the best apps will be hosted on the BlackBerry App World, which is available in over 160 markets, supporting 26 currencies, 7 languages, and pre-loaded on new BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.

Research In Motion says that Over 90 percent of its 75 million subscribers have access to BlackBerry App World and over 6 million apps are downloaded each day.

According to Evans Data Corporation, 13 percent of vendors using BlackBerry App World are making over US$100,000 which is more than Apple, Android and Windows Mobile.

The Jam sessions run by BlackBerry worldwide are aimed at engaging the developers into developing apps for its new OS, which would ensure plenty of apps are available to the public.
