The ‘Innovation Village’ Joins the Pan-African Network of Tech Hubs

Founded in 2011, AfriLabs; a Pan-African innovation hub network – has been working through tech hubs to build an innovation infrastructure that encourages the growth of Africa’s knowledge economy by supporting the development of start-ups, technology, and innovation, fostering partnerships between tech hubs across the different regions and promoting opportunities that the hubs and their communities can benefit from.

According to new reports, the tech networking and acceleration association has today officially welcomed 11 new hubs, expanding its network to 50 tech and innovation hubs across more than 20 African countries with over 50,000 community members. The firm in press statement said they have extended its membership base to two new African countries – Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Notably, in the newly added innovation hubs includes; The Innovation Village; a hub in Kampala, Uganda that deliberately grows innovations by putting in place a platform that challenges assumption, ignites thought and questions status quo. Through entrepreneurship and innovation, they seek to assume major responsibility for the economic, social and cultural vitality of the communities.

Innovation Village currently runs very specialized labs which are the destination for big ideas in Fintech, Media, Climate, Agriculture, Education Health and Diversity.

Here’s the full list of the newly accepted tech and innovation Hubs in Africa;

  1. nHub – Nigeria.
  2. inCUBE8 – Malawi.
  3. iBridge – Nigeria.
  4. Lumumba Labs – DRC.
  5. Wenak Labs – Chad.
  6. Sote Hub – Kenya.
  7. The Innovation Village – Kampala.
  8. The Tech Village – Zimbabwe.
  9. BitHub – Kenya.
  10. dLab – Tanzania.
  11. Startpreneurs – Nigeria.

In a press statement, Anna Ekeledo; Head of Secretariat at AfriLabs, said; “We are constantly looking to work with tech hubs and other stakeholders of the African entrepreneurial ecosystem to foster institutional linkages and collaboration, advocate for better enabling policies as well as provide entrepreneurs and innovators access to the right tools, environment and finance to scale in Africa and beyond. We are pleased to have these new hubs join our network.”

The Innovation village now joins Hive Colab; a community-owned collaborative and co-working space for Uganda’s tech based community and Outbox; an incubation hub that supports techies and entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into businesses – in a few of the accepted Ugandan tech hubs.[related-posts]
