Campaign to Crowdfund Greece’s Bailout Crashes Indiegogo

A crowdfunding campaign to bail out Greece has drawn so much interest that Indiegogo’s servers became overloaded and took the site temporarily down.

The campaign has so far raised a shocking €539,715, with more coming in.

Thom Feeney, a London shoe shop worker started a campaign to raise €1.6 billion (that’s US $1.78 billion).

The IndieGoGo campaign, started just two days ago, has attracted funding from more than 33,000 people.

Thom has offered some incentives for people willing to hand over cash. People donating €3 are promised a postcard of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, while those willing to give €5,000 can receive a Greek holiday for two.

Investors giving money to the fund are expected to get their money back if the campaign does not hit €1.6bn in seven days.
