DStv Internet Launched in South Africa

Multichoice has launched DStv Internet in South Africa targeting users who do not have fiber in their residential area.

Multichoice has launched DStv Internet in South Africa targeting users who do not have fiber in their residential area but want to access the internet regularly using various devices in their home. The Pay-tv service provider is using MTN as their network service provider.

DStv Internet is a fixed wireless access service —and forms part of what the subscription broadcasting giant refers to as its ongoing evolution from a traditional video entertainment business.

The DStv Internet comes in three offers; 25GB, 110GB, and 220GB. Customers will also be able to choose from bundled offerings that include data options with their DStv subscription package, allowing them to stream content on any internet-connected device.

The DStv Internet offering also includes an exclusive new premium service called DStv Trusted Home, AI-driven network security, and Wi-Fi management solution developed jointly by MultiChoice’s digital platform security subsidiary Irdeto, and Minim.

Nyiko Shiburi, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa said that the AI-driven network security and Wi-Fi management system lets broadband providers strengthen their reputation by providing a superior broadband experience.

The DStv Trusted Home comes with an iOS and Android app, that will allow users;

  • Manage their data usage through running speed tests and managing data consumption.
  • Access parental controls to make sure that children are not spending too much time in front of their screens and set limits accordingly.
  • Review and approve connection requests. In addition to this, the app will also block attacks and malicious websites.

“In a time when people spend more time online than ever before, Wi-Fi management and security of their home network and parental controls around children’s behavior online have become increasingly important services for operators to provide,” said, Shane McCarthy, COO of video entertainment at Irdeto

The DStv Trusted Home app is only available for use with DStv Internet routers models; the ZTE 286C and the ZTE 286 R. The routers are included in the bundle and contract offerings —and their prices include;

  • 25GB daytime + 25GB night time + ZTE MF286R — R229 (roughly UGX55,000) per month (24 months).
  • 110GB daytime + 110GB night time + ZTE MF286C — R499 (roughly UGX107,000) per month (24 months).
  • 220GB daytime + 250GB night time + ZTE MF286C — R799 (roughly UGX190,000) per month (24 months).

Customers will also be able to purchase DStv Internet online.
