NITA-U Develops National IT Project Methodology for providing Guidance

The National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) has developed the National IT Project Management Methodology to provide guidance on how to manage and provide advice on IT projects to government.

The Executive Director of NITA-U James Saaka said at the launch of the project on June 28 at Imperial Royale that the project provides essential components of planning and management of IT projects and highlights good practices that should be applied throughout the IT project lifecycle.

The project is built on the collective knowledge and experience of IT project management professionals working within government.

The methodology reflects on lessons learned from other major government IT projects implemented in the past. The projects aim at achieving better management of small and large projects and or programs with a move towards adopting Project / Program Management practices within MDAs.

The project management support guides and templates are also developed to further provide detailed guidance to users and ensure standardization of procedures and processes.

NITA-U will periodically establish a Review Group that will review this National IT Project Management Methodology (NITPMM) to implement any necessary changes.

In a bid to move with the growing trend of information and communications technologies, in 2009, the government of Uganda established NITA-U by an Act of Parliament (National Information Technology Authority, Uganda Act of 2009) and tasked it with the mandate to coordinate, promote and monitor Information Technology (IT) developments in Uganda within the context of national social and economic development.
