Citroën launches Facebook fan-designed C1 Connexion

The final design of the C1 Connexion is the result of more than 24,000 configurations submitted through Citroën’s Facebook page as a part of its “You like it, we make it” event and app. During the design stage, members of the public were invited to use the Facebook app to put themselves on the factory floor, choosing the appearance and feature set of the vehicle.

The vehicle, which also features a name badge designed by a Citroën Facebook fan, is based on the C1 1.0i 68 manual in VTR trim and includes 14in alloy wheels, dark-tinted rear windows, Caldera Black metallic paint and Scarlet Red interior and exterior detailing as well as ABS and EBD systems, variable power assisted steering, driver’s, front passenger’s and front lateral airbags, daytime running LEDs, air conditioning, and front electric windows.

Priced at £500 more than its VTR equivalent, Citroën claims that the C1 Connexion comes with around £925 of additional equipment over and above its standard stablemate. As with the VTR, the C1 Connexion boasts official fuel economy of 65.7mpg in the combined cycle and carbon dioxide emissions of 99g per kilometre driven – meaning the vehicle is exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) and the London Congestion Charge.

“Citroën UK has a great relationship with its Facebook community – now almost 100,000 strong – and we’re always looking to give something back with exclusive news or competitions”, claimed Citroën communications director Marc Raven at the launch. “Now Citroën fans can look forward to seeing this special edition C1, which they helped produce, on sale across the UK. I think that’s something they can be very proud of.”

The C1 Connexion is available to order now, priced at £9,495 in three-door and £9,845 in five-door guises.
