Twitter Now Allows Users To Retweet With Media Content

Micro-blogging website Twitter is rolling out a new feature that allows its users share media content including; images, videos and GIFs if they choose to ‘retweet with comment’. Previously the option was limited to text and those that shared media content did so in replies.

Twitter posted a tweet that read, “It’s easy to express yourself by re-tweeting with a comment. What if you could take it a step further and include media? Starting today, you can retweet with photos, a GIF, or a video to really make your reaction pop.”

The update is available to Android and iOS users. The desktop availability and functionality of this feature remain isn’t commented on.

Twitter says, “If you’re seeing this on a desktop browser, it’s not going to look quite right.”

The reason as why platform wasn’t allowing its users to post using media was that some users would find it confusing.

“We found it was challenging for people to quickly understand all the content in a retweet with media. This was due to the layout; two large tweets stacked on top of each other,” The Verge quoted a Twitter spokesperson as saying.

Twitter has 330 million monthly active users, according to statista. However, according to Washington Post, Twitter reported that the number of monthly active users is declining. They claimed 321 million monthly users, down 9 million, or more than 2% from the same time last year.
