Carrefour, the retail chain owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim in Uganda officially commenced its ongoing ‘Round Up Your Bill’ initiative with an event held at Noah’s Ark Village in Entebbe. This initiative allows customers to contribute donations that aid vulnerable groups in nearby communities, aligning with the brand’s mission to foster positive change.

As part of the initiative, customers shopping at all Carrefour stores have the option to round up their bill to an amount of their choice at the checkout counter. The difference above the transaction total is then donated to one of six partner schools and homes. For instance, if a customer’s bill amounts to UGX5,300, they can choose to round it up to UGX6,000, with the additional UGX700 being directed toward the donation.

Christophe Orcet, the Regional Director of East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, expressed gratitude for the generous support from customers over the almost two-year duration of the initiative. The ‘Round Up Your Bill’ program initially launched at the Oasis and Metroplex stores in September 2021 and has since expanded to Carrefour stores in Victoria, Acacia, Lugogo, and Village Mall.

Each store has partnered with a local children’s home or school in need, including Peculiar Child Care Support, Kireka Home for Children, Mulago School for The Deaf, Kiswa Primary School, Ntinda School for the Deaf, and Noah’s Ark Village under Disability Community for Humanity.

Since its inception, the initiative has successfully raised over UGX285,000,000. The funds will be allocated to various projects, such as renovating school facilities and constructing classroom blocks, washrooms, and sickbays. Carrefour colleagues actively participated in fundraising, distribution, and volunteering to ensure adequate support for each institution.

The ‘Round Up Your Bill’ initiative reflects Carrefour’s enduring commitment to the health and well-being of the Ugandan community. The retail chain continues to provide customers with high-quality products at affordable prices, reaffirming its dedication to enhancing the overall customer experience.
