MTN Uganda Commissions Shs 100M ICT Resource Centre in Gulu

MTN Uganda has opened a brand new ICT Resource Centre at the Gulu War Affected Training Centre in Gulu District.

The project which is estimated to have cost close to UGX 100 million comes weeks after MTN Foundation’s announcement of a Ushs 5 billion investment commitment into community development projects in the country.

It includes 15 state of the art computers, hi-powered UPS system and dedicated internet connectivity established to support both the center that trains and equips girls and women who were affected during the war conflict in the north with life and business skills and the community of Gulu to access both internet services and ICT basics.

“With the growing trends in technology, MTN Uganda through the MTN Foundation continues to bridge the gap between the urban and rural areas especially in the education sector, through the implementation of ICT related initiatives in communities across the country”, MTN CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte said.

“There is a direct link between improved literacy and the socio-economic status of any community. We are committed to support such initiatives that further enhance human capacity building as a catalyst for economic development,” he added.

In his remarks, H.E. Prof LS. Mollo who was the Guest of Honour, commended MTN Uganda for its continued commitment and enthusiasm in making a difference among communities stating that the company’s support of the Gulu War Affected Training Centre will go a long way in enhancing development in Gulu.

The MTN Uganda Foundation is a not-for-profit legal entity that was inaugurated in July 2007 as a vehicle through which MTN U implements its’ Corporate Social Investments (CSI).

The Foundation strives to improve the quality of life in communities where MTN Uganda operates in a sustainable way.

It invests resources for social redress, thus empowering people by skills transfer, preserving and nurturing their heritage, culture and arts, supporting sports and sports development.
