MTN Uganda Launches a New MoMoPay Merchant Code

MTN Uganda has today launched a new MoMoPay merchant code through which customers can donate funds to support the relief effort, especially for those most affected by the economic and social devastation caused by coronavirus.

The announcement was made by the telco’s CEO, Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte in news conference that was held on the company’s Facebook page — where he reiterated the company’s commitment to stand together with Ugandans to reduce the impact that COVID-19 is having on our lives.

The new MoMoPay merchant code; 191919 is a Red Cross Merchant Account where MTN customers will be in position to donate money to Red Cross towards efforts to combat the spread of the virus as well as support those most affected by the pandemic.

Mr. Robert Kwesiga; Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General appreciated MTN’s gesture and reiterated the society’s commitment to alleviate the human suffering that is increasingly being experienced by communities especially the most vulnerable people in society.

“MTN Uganda will continue to look at ways of supporting our communities and government, to ensure that together, we do everything feasible to get through this difficult time,” said Mr. Wim.

For MTN customers willing to donate to this cause, can dial *165*3*191919# and donate any amount of their choice.

MTN Uganda unveiled its plan to support the government fight the spread of this virus. Among which include; introduced work from home bundles, temporarily removed transaction fees while sending mobile money between person to person (P-2-P), set aside for immediate use UGX500 million that the Ministry of Health will advise on where the most urgent priority needs are and will thereby make the money immediately available.
