List of Pivot East 2013 Semifinalists Released

Pivot-EastEast Africa’s premier mobile startups pitching competition, Pivot East, which is held annually has released the list of the 2013 semifinalists.

The objectives of the initiative to amplify and consolidate the gains of East Africa’s Mobile developer and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The semifinalists in the respective categories are:

FINANCIAL CATEGORY

  1. GO Finance Company Ltd: GO, leverages business value chains & technology to provide MSMEs at the base of the pyramid.- Tanzania

  2. M-Duka Ltd: M-Duka, an online virtual products platform that allows users to purchase or retail virtual products using their mobile phones.- Uganda

  3. DEPHICS: TiME, a mobile application aimed at enhancing purchasing and payment of tickets from any location and at any time.-Tanzania

  4. intelworld:  A solution that integrates into major payments providers to enables businesses to transact online , using feature phones (USSD and SMS) and offline using POS.

  5. The Biashara Society: ChamaPesa, gives chamas a way to pool their savings so their members can buy and hold savings in diverse instruments with safety and accountability.-Kenya

  6. Inforex Africa: Inforex,platform enabling communication and Forex trading between Forex bureaus and offers current Forex information to the public.-Uganda

  7. EZsacco Ltd: ezsacco, allows SACCOs to receiving,manage payments through M-Pesa. It performs accounting and reports generation,member access their account via SMS.-Kenya

  8. The Engine Ltd: The Engine, a mobile money platform built on solid accounting standards and latest technologies, designed to be fast, reliable, secure and easy to use.- Uganda

  9. Afro-Cyber Global: Somesha, finances less advantaged children’s education through crowd-funding using mobile money.Uganda

  10. ShareTime Ltd: ShareTime, enables cross network use of airtime thereby enabling easier access to voice/data services.-Uganda

ENTERPRISE CATEGORY

  1. SleepOut.com: SleepOut, SMS-driven booking process connects both commercial and peer-to-peer hosts with guests and agents.-Kenya

  2. ffene Ltd: Ffene is a low cost business management platform enabling SMEs to run efficiently, make better decisions and save on administrative costs.-Uganda

  3. Peach CRM: Peach CRM , a tool for the vital task of managing your contacts and related organizations, partners, vendors and suppliers. -Kenya

  4. SCROBBER: Scrobber,provides information about availability,price and location of goods and services ready for hire,matched to a customer’s location. -Kenya

  5. Binary Logic: Meka,a mobile and web product and price reference platform that gives you information about anything you would like to buy, capability to order online, as well as GPS direction to the store. Uganda

  6. echorest Technologies Ltd: echorest, an android application that is a real-time,proximate-based buyer-powered market place that tries to connect buyers and seller through sms and e-mail. – Kenya

  7. SchoolMaster Solutions: An information portal for parents and school administrators, available as a web application as well as a mobile app for Android devices.- Uganda

  8. MobiAgent: A platform that helps users become authorized distributors of businesses via a mobile app. At the same time. -Kenya

  9. Adem Systems Limited: Juakali,a service that bridges skilled service providers from the informal sector with potential clients. – Kenya

  10. Mank and Tank: Virtual Classrooms on mobile devices that allow users to access educational material,create digital content,present & share info. – Kenya

SOCIETY CATEGORY

  1. Kweli Mobile: SMART BLACKBOARD,provides students with 1-on-1 interactive tutorials with real teachers, without the need for access to the internet.- Kenya

  2. iDaktari Ltd: iDaktari,a multi-platform healthcare system tailored for doctors with private practices that simplifies information management and security. -Kenya

  3. Kytabu: Kyatabu, is a micro-leasing textbook subscription application that enables students to get just the material they need to learn, when they need it, wherever they are and pay for just that piece of content while they have it. – Kenya

  4. FarmPal: FarmPal, a mobile application that creates a platform where farmers can share information. It;s two main features are market place and community. Kenya

  5. Patch-it: Patch-it, a mobile app in form of a game that makes students’ revision easy & effective by repeatedly setting random test Questions. – Uganda

  6. skoobox: Skoobox, an academic-networking platform for students that provides them with a platform to share and make the learning process more connected and open.- Kenya

  7. Ecademy Africa: eShule, a mobile app that will offer career and college counseling, and alternative eLearning via online courses and exams for high school students.- Kenya

  8. CancerBank: CancerBank, is a mobile health app that will make it easier for self diagnosis,education,early detection,prevention,diagnosis,triage and treatment of cancer.- Kenya

  9. Code Vision Ltd: BrainShare, a mobile and web application that enables students to easily access academic content such as past papers and simplified notes. – Uganda

  10. AgriSoft Ltd: GreenHouse Pro,app on greenhouse technology with information on how to produce six main greenhouse crops including the available varieties,input requirement,where to source the certified and affordable seeds and a guide on the technologies of postharvest handling of farm produce to reduce the postharvest loss. – Kenya

UTILITY CATEGORY

  1. Ma3Route: Ma3Route, crowd-sources for traffic and transport information from locals in order to provide users with up-to-date information that can inform their movements. – Kenya

  2. Kijicho Interactive Limited: Kijicho, an interactive platform that enables public vehicle users to share pictures, videos, audio and comments with fellow passengers and the world. – Kenya

  3. SMSQ: SMSQ, a service that allows mobile subscribers to discreetly know who called them without calling back. – Kenya

  4. Habari: Habari app, lets you read the news that matters to you when it’s convenient. – Kenya

  5. The Diet Assistant Ltd: The DietAssistant, a mobile diet solution that recommends healthy and affordable meals composed of locally available and accessible foods. – Uganda

  6. SmartShop: Smart_Shop, allows supermarkets to be able to offer shopping via the mobile phone by offering a platform where customers can view real prices from and enhance their shopping experience. – Kenya

  7. TrueDine: TrueDine, restaurant recommendation and reservation app that helps you discover restaurants, explore menus and make instant table reservations. – Uganda

  8. Synacor Consortium: MajiRipoti, a solution that gives feedback on any water and sewer bust pipes, by taking photos write a short comment to Water providers via GPS.- Kenya

  9. Brudan Digital Limited: BodaPay, a mobile app that helps the user to estimate the cost of his intended journey while using public means of transport in Uganda. – Uganda

  10. Creat It: A mobile file tracking system, an automation and reporting solution for physical files transactions.- Tanzania

ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORY.

  1. Tokelezea: Tokelezea, a mobile application that provides a dynamic guide to your neighborhood fun list, it enables you to find out what your friends are up to and also brings relevant reviews and related news. – Kenya

  2. gigwapi.com:  is an online platform where you can discover fun things to do over the week and weekends. While connecting event organizers to their target market. – Kenya

  3. Jaguza: Jaguza, is a form of online business directory for vendors and service providers associated with events such as weddings, introduction ceremonies, birthday parties etc. – Uganda

  4. Kola Studios: Matatu, is a two-player card game based on the popular Ugandan game played with a pack of cards.The game can be played on Mobile (Android) and on Facebook. – Uganda

  5. Oktopus Mobile: Kuba, is a platform that enables delivery of content like music,audios, videos & wallpapers from websites,media houses & record labels to the phone. – Uganda

  6. UOG: Fun games that carry a message. – Kenya

  7. Jooist: Jooist, a social gaming network for mobile phones. It enables users to discover, download and play free games, compare scores & achievements with friends. – Kenya

  8. Tivi: TiVi,delivers program guides, gossip, reviews & spoilers direct to your phone. – Kenya

  9. Sysol Systems Solutions: Gaming Studio,an equipped game studio creating African culture based games given the multicultural advantages that Kenya & Africa provides.- Kenya

  10. 254Events: 254Events, a mobile and web platform that gives  information regarding events and purchasing of the event’s tickets.- Kenya
