YouTube Brings Live Streaming and Super Chats to its Mobile Apps
Video-sharing website, YouTube on Tuesday began roll out of their new mobile live streaming feature to every creator with more than 10,000 subscribers, joining the likes of Leading social network Facebook; Facebook Live and Twitter’s Periscope who already added such capabilities to their mobile applications.
Google-owned YouTube has supported live streaming of video through computers for about six years, even broadcasting US presidential debates online.
“It’s a launch that’ll put the power of live streaming in the hands of hundreds of thousands of talented creators, giving them a more intimate and spontaneous way to share their thoughts, lives, and creativity,” Product Managers Barbara Macdonald writes in a blog post.
The video-sharing platform also added a financial incentive in the form of a “Super Chat” tool available to creators in more than 20 countries and viewers in more than 40 countries that lets them earn revenue from live streaming.
Video creators will earn revenue in a way that any of their fans watching a live stream stand out from the crowd and get the creator’s attention by purchasing chat messages that are highlighted in bright colors and stay pinned to the top of the chat window for up to five hours.
