MTN Data Bundles Explained, What’s Best For You

In this era, we can’t live or do without internet — there’s no doubt to that. The United Nations (UN) declared that it considers the internet to be a human right. Specifically, an addition was made to Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, everyone has the right to access internet.

The right to Internet access is the view that all people must be able to access the internet in order to exercise and enjoy their rights to freedom of expression & opinion, and other fundamental human rights. It is therefore made available and affordable to all persons without discrimination. To access it, you need a plan which is offered by your internet service provider (ISP) such as; MTN, Airtel, Africell, Roko Telkom, Smart, Tangerine here in Uganda.

In this article, we are looking and briefly explaining some of data plans that MTN Uganda provides to its customers. We are excluding; the daily, weekly, monthly, and the unlimited bundles.

Work From Home
These bundles were introduced in March this year because of the covid-19 outbreak. The bundles were introduced to encourage people to work from home other than at their offices where there’s almost no social distancing. The bundles were part of MTN’s plan to play a role in fighting the virus.

The work from home bundle is a 1GB data package costing UGX2,000 which is valid from 9AM to 5PM. According to Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte, MTN Uganda CEO, the time interval choosen is the normal working hours and thought it is best that way.

To activate this bundle, you can use the MyMTN app, MTNMoMo app or dial *150*19#.

myPakaPaka
These bundles were introduced in 2016 and they not only come as internet bundles but in voice bundles as well. There are 24 hour bundles and come in three packages. What to note is that myPakaPaka bundles are different for each individual, this is is because MTN is using each customer’s internet usage behavior and average spend to create bundles, completely unique to each customer.

To activate this bundle, you can use the MyMTN app, MTNMoMo app or dial *160*1*2#.

Gaga Wednesday
These bundles were introduced in 2017, and is only available on Wednesday. At time of introduction till 2019, the bundles were only valid for 24 hours but later in 2020 MTN revised them to run for three days.

MTN through this plan offers its customers more volume in data for less. For instance, you find 5GB priced at UGX3,500 and in normal pricing, the 5GB is priced at UGX20,000 for the weekly package.

To activate this bundle, you ought to have the MyMTN app installed on your phone.

Tooti
This 60 minute running bundle was introduced in 2016. At time of launch till 2018, it came in 50MB for UGX300 valid for 30 minutes, 100MB for UGX500 shillings valid for 60 minutes and 1GB at UGX4,500 valid for 60 minutes. But now the bundle only comes at 60MBs for UGX500 valid for 60 minutes.

To activate this bundle, you can use the MyMTN app, MTNMoMo app or dial *150*14# .

Gaga Time
The bundle was introduced this year around March in this time of the covid-19 crisis. The bundle could be birthed from the mid-week bundle Gaga Wednesday. Unlike Gaga Wednesday bundle that run for three days, Gaga Time bundles a valid from 12AM to 10AM coming in for 2GB at UGX2,000 and 5GB at UGX4,000.

To activate this bundle, you can use the MyMTN app, MTNMoMo app or dial *150*1*1*5#.

WakaNet
Like the Work from Home bundles, the MTN Wakanet is also a home internet service introduced in this covid-19 crisis to aid people to work from home.

The starter kit costs UGX245,000 comes with a 4G router bundled with 35GB data that won’t expire till it depletes. However, there are other data alternatives; 75GB for UGX150,000 and 175GB for UGX300,000. The 35GB on the other hand costs UGX75,000.

To activate this bundle, you can use the MyMTN app, MTNMoMo app or dial *177*2#.

Freedom Bundles
These bundles were introduced in 2019, and they never expire unless when depleted. They come in 6MBs for UGX100, 80MBs for UGX1,000 and 1GB for UGX10,000.
