Mercedes-Benz Tests Google Glass Integration

Mercedes-Benz Tests Google Glass IntegrationIn-car navigation systems are invaluable ways to help you reach your destination. What if that same level of convenience helped you navigate after getting out of the car?

Mercedes-Benz and Google are working on it. A new type of “door-to-door navigation” uses Google Glass as way to continue turn-by-turn navigation after you park your car.

Mercedes already has a working prototype of the technology and is working with Google to turn it into a reality.

Google already offers walking directions as part of Google Maps. The Mercedes app would streamline communications between Glass and your vehicle, allowing you to seamlessly switch between the two.

In its current iteration, you input an address into Glass at home. That information transfers to your in-car navigation when you get in your car and plug your phone in. Then, when you get out of the car, the navigation returns again to Glass so you can complete your journey.

Glass is currently only available for a small group of “Glass Explorers.” The device is expected to be available to the public in 2014 — and Mercedes wants to be ready.
