Airtel Zambia records $31 million profit

New-Airtel-LogoZambia’s largest operator, Airtel which is part of Bharti Airtel Group has recorded a profit of about $31 million for the financial year ending December 31 2012. This was revealed during the company’s annual general meeting in Lusaka, Zambia. The company received roaming revenues amounting to $79, 000 during the period and were earned from foreign telephony operators when their subscribers utilised the Airtel network.

The operator offers roaming services with over 227 partner operators across the globe with footprints in over 80 countries, according to the company.

“For the period under review, we received roaming revenue amounting to $79, 000,”Airtel Zambia chairperson George Sokota told the paper.

Sokota said the company takes the issues of corporate governance seriously and was focused on a sound corporate governance framework that contributes to improved corporate performance and accountability.

He said there was also a strong focus by the audit committee on matters relating to financial operations, fraud, application of accounting, control standards and results.

Sokota added that the company had put in place a code of conduct that sets out the standards on how staff should behave with all stakeholders saying an effective monitoring mechanism to support management’s objective of enforcing the code of conduct had been developed.

Airtel Zambia offers a full range of voice services, international roaming, pre-and-post-paid subscriptions, among other services.
