MultiChoice Sends 4 Ugandan Aspiring Film Makers to Nairobi For Training

Four Ugandans—aspiring film makers have been selected by MultiChoice Africa to receive a one-year fully funded training in Nairobi. The four Ugandans; Daisy Masembe, Isiko Abubaker, Victoria Nakimbowa, and Pius Talemwa are the final students of the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) academy class of 2019.

9 applicants were selected and pitched to jury, where only the final four [mentioned above] were selected as finalists. The finalists were selected after a rigorous interview and adjudication process by film & television experts, and Regional Academy Director in East Africa; Njoki Muhoho.

In total, 60 aspiring film makers were selected across 13 countries — 20 from each region; East Africa, Southern Africa, and West Africa. In East Africa, the 20 finalists came from Kenya (11), Uganda (4), Tanzania (4), and Ethiopia (1).

The class of 2019/20 will also be exposed to the MTF Masterclass aimed at up-skilling industry professionals by offering exclusive access to practical, expert-led industry skills workshops.

Launched in June 2018, MTF academy is an initiative that forms part of the MultiChoice’s strategy of furthering this investment through creating shared value by using its core business resources, people, skills and networks to affect a positive change in society that yields benefits for the business and society.

The program offers filmmakers with training and hands-on experience in the film industry — with a focus on storytelling, production, audio and directing. The content they create from their training is aired on M-Net and Showmax channels.

Notably, in March, the initiative rolled out the MTF Portal and interactive online destination which brings talent and opportunities together under one platform for Africa’s creatives to connect and network with each other.
