Rumors have started going around social media that Uganda may get its second round of social media and mobile money shutdown by the government as the president elect is set to be sworn into office on May 12th.
During the presidential elections in February, social media and mobile money services were shutdown on orders from the government, through the telecom regulator, Uganda Communications Commission.
The move, however, did not keep a good number of internet users in Uganda completely off air, as many people used VPNs to get access to social media services. This time around some users suspect the government could have devised a means to completely lock out access.
Many users have already reported slow access to social media sites especially Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp on most networks.
