Vivo has launched its portrait flagship smartphone, the vivo V50, in Kenya to redefine the user experience for creative expression. “With the V50, we’re taking another leap forward in mobile imaging,” said James Irungu, Vivo Brand Manager Kenya. “Its advanced portrait capabilities, premium design, and powerful performance redefine the expectations for a smartphone in this price range.”

Specifications and features

The V50 is IP68/IP69 dust-tight and water resistant (high-pressure water jets; immersible up to 1.5m for 30 min), making it ideal for various environments. It comes with a sleek and ultra-lightweight design. The Ultra Slim 4D Infinity Curved Screen enhances viewing with an immersive, edge-to-edge display, perfect for streaming, gaming, and vibrant visuals. The curved corners not only enhance usability but also add a touch of elegance. Vivo’s advanced anti-mistouch technology reduces accidental taps, making it ideal for intense gaming sessions.

It features an AMOLED display with a screen size of 6.77 inches protected with a Diamond Shield Glass.

The phone runs on Android 15 coupled with Funtouch 15 and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, an Octa-core, offering decent performance with a 15% CPU boost and a 50% GPU improvement. Its AI Neural Network Unit and ISP ensure smooth app launches, enhanced gaming visuals, and optimized daily tasks.

It comes with 12GB of RAM which can be extended virtually up to 24GB. It has an option of 256GB and 512GB storage options — and coupled with the RAM, the V50 can run multiple apps simultaneously.

As for the cameras, the Vivo 50 comes with a dual rear camera setup each with a 50MP sensor (wide + ultrawide) and a 50MP front camera — all the three cameras are capable of shooting videos up to 4K at 30fps. The cameras feature an AI Image Studio, Film Camera Mode, and Live Photo features for enhanced creative expression.

The dual ring camera module combines functionality with sophistication through luxury-grade engraving, matte precision diamond pattern, and high-gloss cut corners, showcasing vivo’s dedication to meticulous craftsmanship.

Featuring ZEISS Multifocal Portrait, the V50 offers 23 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm focal lengths. Each focal length is paired with one of seven iconic ZEISS Style Bokeh effects, ensuring a comprehensive selection of classic and distinctive bokeh with expertly tuned color grading for a signature look.

The V50 debuts vivo’s next-generation virtual lighting technology, AI Aura Light Portrait 2.0. Utilizing AI algorithms and a 143x ultra-soft fill light, it delivers studio-quality, multi-angle lighting that is both soft and atmospheric. Two new cinematic portrait lighting styles, Rembrandt Lighting and Butterfly Lighting, further enhance portrait shots.

The V50 comes with a 6,000mAh battery and features a 90W FlashCharge. The performance is powered by multiple innovations, including a second-generation silicon-carbon anode and vivo’s proprietary battery encapsulation technology.

With vivo’s proprietary slim stacking technology and a robust 6,000mAh BlueVolt Battery, the V50 balances performance with aesthetics.
