Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, the third edition of GITEX Africa has kicked off in Marrakech, until April 16, 2025. Organized by KAOUN International (the overseas affiliate of Dubai World Trade Centre) under the authority of Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform and hosted by the Digital Development Agency (ADD), the event is solidifying its reputation as a global tech powerhouse, building on its acclaimed predecessors to drive Africa’s digital transformation.
This year’s edition continues to harness surging global interest in Africa’s tech potential, uniting thousands of attendees—from innovators to policymakers to industrial leaders and government officials—to explore breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, cross-border collaboration, etc. The event underscores Africa’s rise as a dynamic market, attracting global investors eager to tap into its rapidly maturing digital economy.
Uganda is yet again participating at GITEX Africa, led by Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. Joining a cohort of global ministers and delegates, Dr. Zawedde emphasized Uganda’s commitment to advancing its innovation ecosystem. In a video shared on the Ministry’s social platforms, she stated: “I look forward to sharing insights on Africa’s tech trends, Uganda’s strides in innovation, and the transformative role of AI. This is a pivotal moment to forge partnerships that accelerate our digital future.”
Dr. Zawedde will feature on the DigiHealth Panel, where she’ll highlight Uganda’s strides in leveraging digital innovation to transform healthcare delivery using homegrown solutions.
Joining Dr. Zawedde will be 10 innovators who will showcase homegrown solutions across sectors such as healthcare, education, fintech, transport, cloud technologies, etc. Their participation highlights the country’s burgeoning tech talent, aligning with the hub’s mission to nurture scalable solutions for local and continental challenges. Among the startups include;
- Eron Niwagaba, Project Manager of Business Development at GOVNET Services, which delivers tailored ICT solutions to automate government and business operations—the aim is to become Africa’s leading trusted partner in reducing IT management costs and complexity.
- Ivan Karugaba, Founder of Microfuse Computer Technology, an IT-firm integrating end-user feedback, industrial design, electronics/PCB development, and market research, the company ensures that its solutions align with community needs.
- Cirus Sumika, Founder of Sumic IT Solutions, which aims to empower SMEs and startups through innovative digital solutions.
- Innocent Orikiriza, Founder of KaCyber Technologies, is transforming public transportation by providing digital ticketing and cashless payment solutions designed for smoother, smarter travel experiences.
Their participation presents a unique opportunity for them to attract global investment, foster collaborations & partnerships, and access new markets, further strengthening Uganda’s position in the global digital economy.
