Zembo Electric Motorcycles, a leader in sustainable transportation solutions in Africa has appointed James Obarowski as its Group President and Co-Founder succeeding founder Etienne Saint-Sernin, who has stepped down from operational roles and will support the company as a board member henceforward.
Previously Zembo Uganda CEO, Obarowski assumes his new role with immediate effect, bringing 18 years of leadership experience in Africa and a proven track record of driving innovation, operational excellence, and growth.

During his time as CEO of Zembo Uganda, Obarowski led the launch of the successful Thunder motorcycle, significant partnerships, and a business transformation leading to 440% year-on-year growth.
Co-founders, Etienne Saint-Sernin and Daniel Dreher started Zembo in 2018, introducing the first commercial electric motorcycles to Uganda. Etienne dedicated 7 years to building Zembo into one of Africa’s leading EV companies. Under his leadership, Zembo demonstrated the viability of e-motorcycles and battery swap systems as impactful and profitable, developing innovative technologies and securing investments from prominent stakeholders.
Etienne expressed confidence in the leadership transition, stating, “James is the right leader to take Zembo to the next level. With his deep expertise and dynamic leadership style, I am confident the company is poised for continued success and innovation.”
The Zembo Board of Directors also expressed their confidence in Obarowski as their new President, stating, “His visionary leadership and commitment to sustainable transportation make him the ideal choice to lead Zembo’s next phase of growth.”
The BoD also thanked Etienne for his years of dedication to creating and building Zembo up to the present looking forward to Obarowski’s contributions to advancing electric mobility in Africa and beyond.
