The African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF), an annual Internet industry event aiming at addressing the key interconnection, peering, and traffic exchange opportunities and challenges in Africa is slated to take place at the Hilton in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from August 20-22, 2024.
Organized by Af-IX, Internet Society, and hosted by ISPA DRC, this year’s conference is specifically relevant to Uganda as it will focus on recent developments in neighboring DRC including new cross-border backbones which offer inland connectivity to West and Southern Africa as well as DRC’s market of approximately 112 million people.
The AfPIF provides participants with global and regional insights for maximizing opportunities that will help grow Internet infrastructure and services in Africa. It further provides a platform where key players; infrastructure and service providers, IXPs, regulators, and policymakers engage in a business-like environment, sharing their experiences and learning, through peering and networking opportunities.
The annual Internet industry event targets Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), peering coordinators & business development managers, Internet Service Providers & operators, telecommunications policy-makers & regulators, content providers, Internet Exchange Point (IXP) operators, infrastructure providers, data center managers, National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) as well as carriers and transit providers.
Participants can register for the AfPIF through the conference website at www.afpif.org/registration/. Attending the conference is free.
Last year, the AfPIF was hosted by MainOne at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Ghana and it attracted 400 participants across Africa. This marked a 28% increase in participation compared to the past conferences since 2010.
