WhatsApp for Android Finally Gets Animated GIF Image Support and Stream Shared Videos Updates

WhatsApp Android users receive “stream videos while downloading and animated GIF image support” update. Earlier, the two features were available to beta users only, now it’s officially available to all Android users.

With the updates, users will be able to play videos as they wait for download first and allow send GIF images.

The new video streaming feature uses Wi-Fi or Cellular data to buffer a shared video depending on your settings, while it’s still in the downloading process in the background. With the new update, the shared videos on WhatsApp will appear with a play icon instead of a download button, while at the bottom left of the video dialogue box shows the size of the video.

The update was initially available in August and allowed WhatsApp users in beta to convert 6-seconds video to gif and share it with contacts. The update now allows users to send GIF via the attach file button which will open the Gallery on the device to be shared. Users can edit the GIF to a preferred size before sending.

You can always get these GIFs both sent and received. WhatsApp stores the GIF images in its “Animated GIFs” folder inside WhatsApp’s directory.[related-posts]
